Why Plastic Free Lent?
Lent is a time to reflect on God’s purpose for our life and how our actions affect our greater calling to love God and neighbor and to be grateful for all that is given to us.
We’ll examine our dependence on plastics and examine alternative choices and habits. The goal is to gain a greater awareness of our consumption and learn to walk lighter on the Earth.
How Do I Join In?
Ideally you are kicking off Lent plastic free; but if you are joining us anytime during the 40 days, please jump in. There are no rules to this challenge. Only actions. If you are jumping in, it may be helpful to start at the beginning and build your Zero-Waste To-Go Kit for greatest impact.
To participate, use the weekly printed calendars below, add our Google Calendar to yours, or join our public Facebook Group.
Does it mean we can use zero plastic?
No! You do not have to avoid all plastics. Plastics are near impossible to avoid. Instead focus on single use plastics and finding alternatives for future use. Don't throw away the single-use plastics in your house right now. Instead focus on how to avoid buying them in the future. When you run out of something, consider replacing it with a zero waste alternative.
To make an impact, we need to acquire new habits and new thinking not just during Lent but on through our lives.
